  • It's Amazing What We Can Achieve!!!

SO!!!..... You can't barely read nor write~
It is not an aweful place to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Some feel it is :**:
My Partner Omar who came to this country in 1990 did not speak a word of English,
He could not speak it, read it nor write it....
Within two years he could speak English fluently....
    He was self taught
Today 20 years on he has his own business.... and he still can't barely write English....
So for all those 'so called' under achievers there is always hope
    Don't blame education....
We can continue to learn through life and improve our skills.
So many people I know give hope to those who do not have the gift of literacy.
You can acheive your goals via other forms of communication.
Life's gift can prove that
My partner Omar speaks five languages, but lack of written English literacy has not let him
    down.
He can read very well but writing skills are basic in English
He lives in this, suppose to be, open minded country.... but people still like to
catogorise and live with steryo type senario's... making condesending negative remarks
on what is a gift and how sad if you do not possess it...
So!! .... My partner has basic writing skills and has a business
I can't spell and have been employed within education working with special needs children
So I say yes it is amazing what we can acieve!!

Here is Omar's own native writen language:
    God willing ~God bless

Let's see if we reversed the situation could we adapt in the same way
I have lived abroad and know how awesome and over whelming it can be
learning a new language and adapting to a new culture
    As this beautiful writing expresses:
    "God Willing &God Bless"

  • How we all Differ!!

    I some times wonder
We are all from different walks in life and we all have our own personal perceptions
on what we think our special gifts are, which we are thankful for!!
I feel modesty is a gift, being sensitive to others whom may not be as fortunate as ourselves,
and helping those who struggle with that which we take for granted.
I have always been drawn to wanting to work wiith special needs children and children
who have social and emotinal problems... those who are refugees and learn English as a second
    language....
    Why...??
I feel for their stuggle for what is needed within our society to survive.
I have mentioned in a previous post way back that I suffer with dyslexia and a form of
dyspraxia so I was drawn to want to help those who like me battled at school!!
How I got into education is a miracle :))
    But I did!! :)
I know at present I am not working... and most of you know the story behind that!!
I am also re-thinking about where it is I want to go and am in a limbo stage... which
    is not good :(
I sometimes wonder when people presume we need confidence with words, spelling,
when the key factor here is not confidence but a special needs awareness
I do get so angry with the impersonal way education is looked upon
The UK offer so much to special needs education but we frown upon the weaknesses
and make littel of those who leave school with possibly no qualifications...
This is sad indeed but we must show sensitivity and a way of encouraging those
less fortunate then ourself and maybe use our so called gifts to help those
in need to progress with a sensitive and careing heart.
The most precious gift is modesty and the heart to show sensitivity to others.

  • Looking Promising!!

Today I received a call from the head of the school where I work and she wants me to
come in midweek for a chat about suporting me in which ever way she can.
We spoke on the phone for about an hour, regarding this child... certain
aspects are now in motion and she is being given a one to one as from today
and it is someone whom I know will have a calming influence on this child
as well as having individual small group time out of the class environment.
    This is a start!!

I went to the doctor who said my hand will need some physio and the stitches
will be taken out next week. It is healing well.
I have to wear a hand support while working.
It is at times like this you realise how you take your hands for granted
any part of our body actually!!
But simple tasks like opening the milk or any finar manipulative tasks
like my favourite sketching I Cant do it but will soon !!
    It is my favourite hobby.
I have had a promising day and the head had an appointment with this childs parents
this morning apparently they have wrote me a letter which I will read when I attend
    the meeting mid week!!
I hope to return to work the following week.
My agency were very helpful with handy advise but the ultimate responsiblity
is with the school who today where very open in what they wish for my welfare
and the welfare of this child and the rest of the staff.
Thank you yesterday for all your valuable comments they indeed helped me with
    my discussion today.
    Thank you.

  • Vulnerability within School regarding Staff

On Friday at work I was visously bitten by a young child and had to go to hospital
    to get stitches.
It was my left hand and I am left handed.
I am contimplating what motion I should take as I am in a dilemma what to actually do
I was in shock on friday and in great pain as the child has damaged the nerve inbetween
my thumb and my index finger.
I am quiet disheartend at present!!
    Sorry....:??:
