In the summer of 1956, my parents were managing the Clarges Hotel in Brighton. I was able to go and play on the two piers in the afternoon. It was a lot of fun. I also adopted a poor tramp, who lived underneath the Boardwalk.
I would go into the hotel kitchen and take food for him. I had just turned fourteen that June. My parents still made me work hard in the hotel, but they were working hard too and so I was able to escape when they were not looking!
Brighton was fun.
Clarges Hotel has now has become posh apartments! Thank you for these wonderful photos, Julie.-

That's great!!
What a lovely story Charlotte
Brighton only has one pier now as one was burnt down in a fire and only
the skeleton of it remains at present, you can see it if you look closely
behind me in the last photo!!-

Oh! What a shame, Julie! Yes, I see the remnants there. Oh well. All good things have to come to an end! Luv: JW xx

John and I were in Brighton the other week, we love it there. It's about an hour away from us, we live where Bushka speaks of, S.E. London. It was a lovely sunny day in Brighton and we went along to the beach in Hove too. Glad you enjoyed the escape from London. We were in town last night, we love that too! It's so great to be not too from both places. Have a lovely weekend Julie.
